INTUG seeks to influence EC
INTUG is actively lobbying the European Commission for the Framework Review, in particular to improve availability and competition in the provision of access circuits. This is critical for multinational corporations seeking to establish regional and global networks with consolidated applications and one-stop-shop management of supply, e.g. global or European contracts. This requires equivalence of input available to competitive carriers in individual member states and the preservation of MVNOs.
In the US, the AdHoc Telecommunications Users Committee has identified a considerable negative impact on business efficiency and profitability and on economic growth, as a result of excess pricing of so-called special access services – the ‘last mile’.
In Europe, we are working with ECTA on a report that will make similar economic arguments for the EU as a whole. This report is due to be published in November, when the ECTA regulatory conference will be held in Brussels. INTUG’s Treasurer Nick White will speak at this conference representing INTUG.
In addition, INTUG will be represented at other events in the autumn, addressing the issue of functional separation as a means of opening up the access market, net neutrality and other relevant topics.
