Ofcom Raises the Alarm on Text and Data Roaming Costs in EU

Mobile operators in the EU face a new attack on their revenue in Europe after Ofcom, the UK telecoms regulator, expressed concern about “extremely high” prices paid by consumers and business people for text and data roaming abroad.

Ofcom Chief Executive Ed Richards is urging operators to cut their roaming prices inside the EU for wireless data services or risk being forced to do so through legislation. The Ofcom chief spoke at the Ofcom Annual Plan stakeholder meeting.
