EC Should Drop “Laissez Faire Approach,” ECTA
Last week, the European Competitive Telecoms Association (ECTA) released new research on broadband which shows that broadband take-up is slowing down and no further progress has been made toward competition across the European Union.
ECTA called for the incoming Commission to set a vision for innovation and growth across the ICT sector and to crack down on protectionist governments.
The recommendations are supported by the conclusions of a new research note from consultants SPC Network which highlights a strong link between effective economic regulation and investment levels in the telecoms sector.
SPC concludes that firms are looking for economies open to effective competition, where they will not encounter barriers to entry as a result of poorly applied regulation that allows dominant operators to behave strategically.
