Google has thrown its weight behind ambitious plans to bring Internet access to 3 billion people in Africa and other emerging markets, the Financial Times reports. The Internet search giant has joined forces with cable TV magnate John Malone and HSBC to set up a new company, O3b Networks, named after the “other 3bn” people for whom fast fiber Internet access networks are not likely to be commercially viable.

European operators have raised the price of roaming calls into the European Union as much as 163 per cent since the introduction of the Eurotariff to compensate for the loss of roaming revenues within Europe, according to research from Informa Telecoms & Media.
