Broadband speeds in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Spain and the U.K. are not up to date when it comes to speedy broadband services available to consumers. These countries are hardly keeping pace with the demands of web based applications and video services, whose bandwidth needs are expected to only rise, according to a new survey.

The OECD released a background report with updated international data on broadband usage. The number of broadband subscribers in the OECD reached 235 million by December 2007, an increase of 18 per cent from 200 million subscribers in December 2006. This growth increased broadband penetration rates to 20.0 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants up from 16.9 in December 2006.
