According to a report (PDF) from Berg Insight, HSPA/LTE accounted for more than 20 percent of the total number of broadband connections in Europe at the end of 2010, compared to 13 percent in North America.

U.S. mobile users pay more than USD40 a month for 2GB of data while Japanese mobile users pay just over USD10 for the same plan (4G LTE speeds – Verizon for the U.S.), according to an infographic by the blog Android Tablet Fanatic.

The OECD has released new statistics on broadband penetration in OECD countries as of June 2010. These include the number of broadband subscribers per country, broadband subscriptions by technology, the percentage of fiber connections in total broadband and, for the first time, a wireless broadband penetration indicator.

The European Commission backs plans that would divert a portion of broadcast spectrum used by TV stations to mobile operators in order to create an EU-wide market for wireless broadband services, according to the International Herald Tribune.

ITU’s new ICT Development Index (IDI) compares developments in ICT in 154 countries over a five-year period from 2002 to 2007. The Index combines 11 indicators into a single measure that can be used as a benchmarking tool globally, regionally and at the country level. These are related to ICT access, use and skills, such as households with a computer the number of Internet users; and literacy levels.
